CAJM works through people power and\u00a0consists of about 20 local faith communities, whose aim is to change local\u00a0policy to address social justice issues that face the most vulnerable in our\u00a0community. It currently addresses 5 issues:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Affordable Housing,<\/li>\n<li>Interrupting Gun Violence,<\/li>\n<li>Mental Health,<\/li>\n<li>Immigration,<\/li>\n<li>Hunger and Food Insecurity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Meeting was also involved with the Affordable Housing project which is now on \u201cmonitoring\u201d status since that project has been successful. Several folks formerly on the Affordable Housing committee will fan out and join other teams.<\/p>\n<p>For more information see <a href=\"https:\/\/www.capitalareajustice.org\/\">https:\/\/www.capitalareajustice.org\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>iGrow Garden:<\/b> While this is an urban agricultural and youth empowerment\u00a0program focused on growing healthy food for the community and providing\u00a0youth employment and leadership development, several Meeting members\u00a0are involved mostly in growing vegetables in the Meeting\u2019s community\u00a0garden for them, and by working in the iGrow Garden itself on Dent Street.<\/p>\n<p><b>Food not Bombs:<\/b> FnB is a mutual aid organization which provides free\u00a0lunches to anyone in need (currently about 80 people) every Sunday from\u00a012-2 p.m. in the gazebo at E. Peck Greene Park. The Meeting supports FnB\u00a0with non-perishable food donations, vegetables grown in the Meeting\u2019s\u00a0community garden and toiletries, and reusable water bottles in summer.<\/p>\n<p><b>Voces Unidas de Gadsden:<\/b> The Meeting is one of 5 hubs which collect\u00a0donations for this group in Gadsden County, generally multiples of different\u00a0non-perishable food items each month. VUdG supports about 38 families of\u00a0asylum-seekers and other refugees in Gadsden County.<\/p>\n<p><b>National and Internation Quaker Organisations:<\/b> We also address issues\u00a0of national concern \u2013 note: provide links to AFSC, FGC, FCNL, FCWC, QEW\u00a0etc. The meeting responds to FCNL concerns from time to time, takes\u00a0guidance from them, and supports actions they recommend.<\/p>\n<p><b>Quakers take a stance:<\/b> Our Meeting paid for our Minute on the Israel-Gaza war to appear in the Tallahassee Democrat in the spring of 2024. An\u00a0article on Immigration written by the Meeting as a whole was printed in the\u00a0Tallahassee Democrat in the \u201cYour Turn\u201d column, with the names of two\u00a0Friends provided for publishing purposes.
